DoLPHiN: A structural and functional database of natural polysaccharides with health benefits

Title Value
Polysaccharide WASP
Source Name Asparagus officinalis
Weight 76.1 kDa
Main Glycosidic Bond(s)
Main Chain The dominating sugar residue was 4-GalpA (39.7 mol%). The main neutral sugars such as T-Galp (7.8 mol%), 2,3,4Galp (9.3 mol%) together with other sugar residues are listed in Table 2. In addition, different arabinose based sugar residues such as T-Araf, 2Araf, 3-Araf and 2,3-Araf were likely derived from arabinan, for which 1–5 linked arabinose was located in the main chain with branching points on the third position of arabinose sugar ring as previously reported. Various galactose-based sugar residues including 3,4-Galp and 4-Galp were also detected in WASP, which could be derived from arabinogalactan-I structure as previously described.
Side Chain The uronic acid content was further assigned to GalpA by the 1H NMR spectrum (residue C) and FT-IR.
